About Marc

Marc Dorgeville lives in the ward, in New Edinburgh, with his wife and their young children. He is a climate scientist turned budget counselor who brings the diverse parts of his career and community engagement together by running for city councillor of the Rideau-Rockcliffe ward.

Trained as an engineer and physicist, Marc completed a PhD in fluid dynamics at the Université de Bretagne Occidentaux, and went on to work on ocean current dynamics and climate change at the University of Toronto, the University of New South Wales and at IBM in Ottawa.

Settling in New Edinburgh in 2011, Marc became increasingly engaged in the community and city around him: as a member of a co-op daycare in Hintonburg, as treasurer for his childrens’ daycares downtown and in Vanier, as a volunteer bookkeeper for the New Edinburgh News, as an active volunteer and member of his children’s francophone school community.

Taking inspiration from these experiences, Marc took his career in new direction. He studied accounting and became a budget counselor with the EBO financial education centre. Today, Marc helps individuals in vulnerable situations across the city area through his work, while taking action to combat climate change in his daily life.

Marc is married to Laura Barnett, a research lawyer and manager in the public service. They have two children – Jack (8) and Sam (7). As a family, they are proud bicycle commuters who are trying to reduce their car reliance.
